When I first considered getting my Notary Commission, I never thought
of it as anything besides a sideline in my career path - something I
could develop and grow into perhaps - at that time I was a Real Estate
Agent, doing alright; but not loving it. As I explored the field of
Notary Public more, I found this whole other "sub-culture called
Signing Agents. Intrigued I explored further, and it made sense to me -
more sense than Real Estate.
My
fate was somewhat handed to me, as the company I was working with
crumbled under the strains of the partners at each others throats. Only
a few months after getting my commission I was looking for work! Then
and there I decided I had a job - I just needed to train myself more,
promote it and get busy.
In no time at all I was in love, with
my job; for the first time in over 20 years I loved my job!. My first
year has been a struggle on many levels; though I discovered early on
the communities online. The most powerful and influential has been, and
remains UNAA. Thank you to Cheryl Aerts for bringing me on board.
The
warmth, the friendship, the pouring forth of information and advice,
the profound impact behind the intentions of this group make it an
imperative for us all to join and lend a hand. As I write this, there
is no "UNION" for Notaries - there are however several "OTHER" Notary
Associations out there. Why should the United Notary Association of America
be any different than the "OTHERS"? It's a reasonable question and all
I need do [rather than right ten paragraphs on the subject] is invite
you to peruse the pages of this site and MWNA (the parent site of this
message board).
There is good will at work here, a novelty among
Notary boards, sure there is some griping going on; but it's focused
and doesn't go on forever. Instead: prodding questions, thoughtful
answers, meaningful, relevant [to Notaries] dialogue is going on here.
And a whole lot more...
As a collective, the UNAA has "a
Plan". In the simplest of terms, it's about time for Notaries. The UNAA
wants to make things better than they are, and to do that, we need any
Notary reading this who is NOT already a member to join us. It's not
free; but the benefits aren't matched anywhere else. The return on your
annual membership in the UNAA is like buying a great stock before it splits and quadruples in price.
If
you are a practicing Notary in New York State, I need to talk with you,
as the New York Chapter Leader for the UNAA. Let's have coffee.
You
can respond to this blog, send a private message, send me an email or
even call me. Just because I'm in Brooklyn and you're in Albany doesn't
mean we can't meet up, one way or another.
Thanking you in advance for all we will accomplish together,
William Ponsot
UNAA Chapter Leader - NYS
